Introduction 1 (Draft)


In this essay I’m going to talk about Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997) who was famous as an artist in the sixties in what was known as the "pop" art movement that also featured the likes of Andy Warhol. Roy Lichtenstein was known for his paintings based on comic strips and for a personal style defined by bold primary colors and the use of "Ben Day dots" a technique cartoonists use for shading and to suggest the dot patterns of a commercial offset painting.

The Kiss (1962)  was among the first "comic strip" paintings for which Roy Lichtenstein became instantly famous in art circles


One of Lichtenstein's most famous paintings was called "Whaam", it features a cartoon image of a fighter pilot from WWII. It is based on an image from 'All American Men of War' published by DC Comics.

1- An introduction about Roy Lichtenstein's work style and techniques
2- The pop art movement, and his role in that movement
3- I will be discussing his most famous art works.
